US Election: Trump and Biden Hit Key Swing States

US President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, have been traveling across the country in preparation for the presidential poll as the US election enters its final phase.

The 74-year-old president was reported to have visited five key states, including North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, and Iowa. While his 77-year-old democratic rival, Biden spoke at a campaign event in Pennsylvania, one of the key states that would determine the winner.

In order to be elected as US president, a presidential candidate is expected to win at least 270 votes, which is called the electoral college. The population of each state often determines the number of votes that would come from it. However, there are totals of 538 votes up for grabs in the US election.

The country is currently about to witness its highest turnout in a century as over a 96millions people have already cast their votes in the early voting.

US election on Tuesday comes amid the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic. According to a report, The US has recorded more cases and more deaths than any other country worldwide, reporting more than 81,000 new infections on Sunday alone.

President Trump boasted about his leadership prowess at Michigan during his campaign for the US election by capturing the country’s current growth in its economy.
“The economy is now growing at the fastest rate ever recorded,” he claimed
BBC reports that the US economy witnessed record-breaking 33% growth in the third financial quarter of this year, following a record 31% contraction in the second. But economists warn against the damages inflicted by the novel pandemic, affecting the US economy in more than 80 years.

Mr. Trump, however, promised secure borders and conservative judges in the court at a rally in Iowa.

Mr. Biden also visited his place of birth, Pennsylvania, another key state in the country. BBC reports that Mr. Biden took his time to address the black community at a rally in Philadelphia, where he pledged to confront “systemic racism” in the US. He also attacked the president handling of the pandemic – something which has hugely affected African Americans.

While the two presidential candidates for the US election are campaigning from states to states, their wives are not also left out as they also work effectively toward their husbands’ victory.

The first lady Melania Trump campaigned in swing states including, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. While Jil Biden is also making use of Tuesday to campaign for her husband in two other key states where Trump secured victory in the 2016 US election.
