Two Policemen Were Sued By a US Army Officer Over Violent Traffic Stop

Two policemen were sued by a US army officer who ranks as a lieutenant for pointing their guns and pepper-spraying him during a casual traffic stop.

As recorded by the bodycam footage taken in December in Virginia, the Army Second Lieutenant Caron Nazario was wearing his uniform in the footage.

“I’m honestly afraid to get out,” he says to the two police officers. “Yeah, you should be,” an officer says.

The main reason he stopped, according to the cops, was that he failed to display his license plates, but the footage consists of visible temporary plates.

The two policemen handcuffed the army officer while his car was being searched. In the footage, Mr. Nazario inquires why the cops were using force on him, and one of the officers replied that “Because you’re not co-operating.” After the search, he was discharged without any fault.

The lawsuit was filed at the US District Court of Norfolk, Virginia, against Joe Gutierrez and Daniel Crocker, which belongs to the Windsor Police Department. They were charged with violations of their constitutional rights and included assault, illegal search, and illegal detention.

The Windsor Police Department didn’t respond to the suit immediately.

The lawsuit was timely because the police force was undergoing high inspection over police brutality towards the people’s inferior faction and racial justice.

The popular footage of Ex-police officer Derek Chauvin, who was white, and the Black American George Floyd provoked numerous global protests against racism. In the Footage, Mr Chauvin was resting his knee on Mr Floyd’s neck, and the ex-officer is currently facing a lawsuit for the murder of an African-American.

Details of the Footage of the Two Policemen

US Army lieutenant Nazario, who was wearing his uniform and was driving a car with a temporary paper placed at his back window on the 5th of December when he was gestured to stop in the town of Windsor.

He pulls over at a filling station and positions his hands outside the window while asking the police in charge why he was stopped.

Lt Nazario was represented by Attorney Jonathan Arthur, who emphasizes that the US army officer knew that he needed to keep his hands-on show.

“To unbuckle his seatbelt, to do anything, any misstep – he was afraid that they were going to kill him,” Mr. Arthur explained to CBS.

The suit filed by Lt Nazario says that ‘Mr. Gutierrez acknowledged why the army officer had waited to pull over in a lighted area.’

“I get it, the media spewing race relations between law enforcement and minorities. I get it,” the policeman said, according to the suit.
