Following her meeting with Princes Harry, William, and Charles the Queen has decided to support her grandson and his family. After the shocking announcement by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last Wednesday on their intent to “step down” as senior members of the Royal family, the Queen set a meeting to discuss how to best handle the situation. Today Queen Elizabeth released a statement in full support of the decision made by Prince Harry and Meghan. She did also express some sadness at the couple’s decision.
Her statements reads : “Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family.”
The Queen also went on to state: “Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives. It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”
Over the next few days the Royal Family and staff will hammer out the logistics of this new move. It is unclear as of now how long the “transition period” will be. However, Harry and Meghan have certainly been making moves behind the scenes.
Many have began to speculate based on news reports that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge played a huge role in Harry and Meghan’s decision to separate from the Royal Family. It has been stated that William and Kate as well as other members of the Royal family have treated Meghan as an outcast for years forcing this Decision. This however, was shut down in a joint statement made by the Princes.
The statements reads: “Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a UK newspaper today speculating about the relationship between The Duke of Sussex and The Duke of Cambridge. For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful.”
