The producers of ‘The Flash’ announced that Hartley Sawyer would not feature in the seventh series of the movie.
In a joint statement issued confirming Sawyer dismissal from the seventh series of the movie, Warner Bros Television, The CW channel, Berlanti Productions, and showrunner Eric Wallace wrote:
“In regards to Mr. Sawyer’s posts on social media, we do not tolerate derogatory remarks that target any race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation,” they said.
“Such remarks are antithetical to our values and policies, which strive and evolve to promote a safe, inclusive, and productive environment for our workforce,” they said.
Actor Hartley Sawyer was popularly known for his roles in Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man, The Young and the Restless on The CW series, ‘The Flash.’ He is an American actor, producer, and writer.
The 35 years old actor has been fired from The CW channel’s show ‘The Flash’ over his racist and misogynist tweets on social media.
Sawyer, who played Ralph Dibny/the Elongated Man, apologized after his offensive tweets containing sexist, homophobic language and racist references surfaced on social media.
He said the tweets were “hurtful and unacceptable” and “I regret them deeply”.
Hartley Sawyer, who joined the US superhero TV show in 2017, has deleted his twitter account, but screenshots of the old tweets have gone viral.
In an apology statement on Instagram, the American actor said he was “ashamed” even though his comments were made as a joke.
“My words, irrelevant of being meant with an intent of humor, were hurtful and unacceptable. I am ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply,” he said.
“This was not acceptable behavior. These were words I threw out at the time with no thought or recognition of the harm my words could do, and now have done today,” he said.
In a separate personal account, Wallace tweeted, saying Sawyer’s tweets “broke my heart and made me mad as hell. And they’re indicative of the larger problem in our country”.
Lead actor Grant Gustin reposted Wallace’s statement and added: “I will say I was shocked, saddened, and angry when I saw the tweets. Words matter.”
