President Joe Biden: Georgia Voting Restriction Law Is 'Atrocity'

President Biden said this was an "un-American law to deny people the right to vote"

President Joe Biden described the new voting law that sprouted Georgia’s state to racist policies of the 20th century the US south, naming it an atrocity.

The law includes limitations to voting that Mr. Biden said: “disproportionately targeted black Americans.”

Republicans in the house explained that they are facilitating voting protocol and hoping to bring back confidence in the election system.

US President Joe Biden described the law as Jim Crow in the 21st Century and a blatant attack on the Constitution.

Jim Crow refers means the 19th and 20th Century laws that enforced racial segregation in the South.

Mr. Biden won Georgia in the last year’s Presidential Election, making him the first Democratic candidate to have won in the state since 1992. It was speculated that his victory was stemmed from a massive turnout of high percentages of black Americans.

What was Joe Biden’s response to the development?

In his official statement that was publicized last Friday, Mr. Biden said: “Recount after a recount and court case after court case upheld the integrity and outcome of a free, fair, and secure democratic process.”

“Instead of celebrating the rights of all Georgians to vote or winning campaigns on the merits of their ideas, Republicans in the state instead rushed through an un-American law to deny people the right to vote.”

He further explains that: “This law, like so many others being pursued by Republicans in statehouses across the country, is a blatant attack on the Constitution and good conscience.”

In conclusion, he said that the justice department was taking a look at Georgia’s recent developments.

What did Georgia’s new law entail?

The law was named the Election Integrity Act of 2021, and it was passed in both chambers of the state, dominated by the Republicans, on Thursday.

Drop boxes are deployed so people can place their absentee votes in them

Georgia became the second state to pass a law that ban ballot access after the 2020 election.

The critical elements of the legislation:

-It makes compulsory new ID requirements for requesting mail-in ballots, displacing the current system, which requires a signature

-Ban the practice of giving food or water to voters in line at polling stations

-Give the state legislature more power to take control of voting operations if problems are reported

-Limit the number of “drop boxes” in which people can place their absentee votes, meaning many will have to travel further

-Shorten the early-voting period for all runoff elections

President Joe Biden wasn’t satisfied by the new laws passed in Georgia.
