The Russian Foreign Ministry has recently released news relating to the ceasefire in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for a ceasefire in the region on 5th October 2020.
Official Statement On Nagorno-Karabakh
A joint statement was then published by the concerning ministries. Lavrov, Le Drian, and Pompeo condemned in the strongest terms the unprecedented and dangerous escalation of violence in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone and beyond. Both of them represent the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Minsk Group Co-Chair countries.

In the published statement, they stressed the recent attacks. The attacks allegedly targeted civilians. The civilian targets were both along the contact line and in the territories of Azerbaijan and Armenia outside the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. The ceasefire poses an unacceptable threat to the stability in the region, according to the statement.
“Referring to the statement made by presidents of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries on Oct. 1, the three leading diplomats once again call on the parties in the conflict to immediately and unconditionally come to a ceasefire,” it said.
More Details on Nagorno-Karabakh Region
The battles are still going on along the contact line of the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Armenia and Azerbaijan have been at loggerheads over the mountainous region of Nagorno-Karabakh since 1988. Although, several peace talks have been held since 1994 when a ceasefire was reached, but there have been occasional minor clashes.

The war between Armenia and Azerbaijan continued for the ninth day on Monday 5th October 2020. Both countries have rejected the international community’s appeal to end this war. The fighting over the region began on September 27 and has escalated to its deadliest level since the 1990s.
What Both The Countries Have To Say?
Meanwhile, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has put forward some conditions to end the war. He said that if Armenia accepts these conditions, then Azerbaijan will stop the war.
Aliyev said that the Armenian army has occupied their territory which it had lost in the 1990s and is deliberately inciting war. If the Armenian army immediately withdraws from the territory, fully describes the withdrawal deadline, and apologizes for what they have done, then Azerbaijan is ready to end this war.

Conclusion on Nagorno-Karabakh Region
Both Armenia and Azerbaijan are accusing each other of inciting war. Both the countries have already targeted countless civilians by now. Seeing the danger of the involvement of superpowers like Russia in this war, both the nations are being appealed to settle the dispute with peace. Several countries including the US have appealed to Armenia and Azerbaijan to stop the war.
Many fear that countries like Russia, Turkey, France, Iran, and Israel might also end up joining the war. If that were to happen, then this war’s scenario will change completely. It is not incorrect to say, that all these countries’ friendly nations might join the war too in aid of their friend countries.

Currently, several nations are coming into picture for a possible peace treaty and a solution to this war. If the war continues, then several more innocent civilians will be dead in no time.
