Lizzo sent the haters on their way before they could even throw out an insult on Friday. The 31-year-old singer flew the flag for body positivity, taking to social media in a curve-flaunting bikini as she soaked up the sun on Rio de Janeiro’s famous Copacabana beach.
This update was about more than just the sizzling swimwear shot, though. The “Good as Hell” singer had taken to her caption with a pun that exuded both wit and confidence – if you’re going to throw out comments about Lizzo’s medically-obese BMI, she’s beaten you to it.
Lizzo is a “roll model,” per her caption, and Instagram is absolutely loving it.
The photos showed the Grammy winner posing in a triangle string bikini in reddish-orange tones. This tiny two-piece wasn’t concealing much, but Lizzo wasn’t out to hide. The brunette posed confidently with her hand placed on her hip, also rocking shades as she gazed ahead. Lizzo’s snaps were a trio set, showcasing her curves from both the front and the back.
Instagram is so on-board with this. Lizzo’s update managed to clock an impressive 680,000+ likes in five hours, also bringing over 10,000 fans into the comments section.
“Looking HAWTT,” one fan wrote.
“I wish I had your confidence. You are an amazing woman. Much love,” another said.
“The power this has” was another comment.
Celebrity likes also came in – rapper Megan Thee Stallion, actress Vanessa Hudgens, and cookbook queen Ayesha Curry all left likes. A like also came in from super-slender supermodel Emily Ratajkowski.
Lizzo’s weight has been a hot topic this year. January 2020 saw Lizzo embroiled in a body-shaming storm as celebrity personal trainer Jillian Michaels called her out on her weight. Speaking about the “Juice” singer, Jillian took to Twitter.
“Why are we celebrating her body? Why does it matter? Why aren’t we celebrating her music? ‘Cause it isn’t gonna be awesome if she gets diabetes.”
The Biggest Loser trainer’s tweet went viral, with fans of Lizzo proving outraged. Then again, those willing to acknowledge that Michaels was referring to someone at heightened risk of diabetes and a heart attack also voiced support for her comment – from a health viewpoint.
Lizzo refuses to be shamed or hide her body. Tiny outfits made headlines as the star donned a thong to a Laker’s game – Glamour called it a “damn delight.” Today’s photos likely reinforced body-positivity for the singer’s fans.
Lizzo has 8 million Instagram followers.
