Lizzo has launched fresh concern regarding her weight. The 31-year-old singer and rapper made a headline-making appearance at Tuesday night’s BRIT Awards – the “Truth Hurts” star rocked up to London’s o2 arena in a custom-made Moschino dress entirely replicating a Hershey’s chocolate wrapper.
Lizzo did, indeed, seem to have delivered herself wrapped up in the iconic chocolate brand’s packaging. Her brown and white dress featured the Hershey logo, it came complete with a bar code, and Lizzo accessorized the floor-length number with a statement, glitter-encrusted clutch purse forming a Hershey’s chocolate bar. A video posted to Lizzo’s Instagram ahead of the BRIT Awards showed her jokingly placing the purse to her mouth as if she were about to eat it.
Lizzo also posted a full-length snap of herself rocking her one-shouldered gown – it was, indeed, a work of art. Lizzo took to the time to thank Italian designer Moschino for the look, with her caption also mentioning the candy. Lizzo called it “the best kind of chocolate.”
Fans have been commenting on the dress. For the most part, Lizzo was thrown a mega thumbs-up by her 8.2 million Instagram followers, but the 700,000+ likes left to the above Instagram post did come with concern. Lizzo is body-positive when it comes to her size, but she is medically obese.
Over 340 users liked the following comment.
“Are you ever going to lose weight? Like just to be healthy? Not even being mean just concerned.”
As to other comments regarding the singer’s size, some did enter trolling territory. Lizzo was told that she doesn’t “need” chocolate by one fan, however replies appearing to voice genuine concern were multiple. “Idk why everyone glorifies obesity,” one user stated.
As to the popular comment telling Lizzo to shift the pounds, fans did jump to the singer’s defense. The user was told to “mind their own business” by one fan, with others stating that Lizzo looked great and should continue to embrace her body, regardless of its size.
The concerns last night come less than a month after Lizzo was embroiled in a “body-shaming” storm as celebrity personal trainer Jillian Michaels took to Twitter to mention the singer’s weight – specifically, her risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
Meanwhile, Lizzo has been making headlines for giving a fresh interview and questioning the world’s double standards. Lizzo stated that people don’t comment on male genitalia size.
“So, what does that tell you about the oppressor? What does that tell you about men? Get it together, we don’t talk about your d—k sizes, do we? Like, ‘that’s not a conventional d—k size, it’s too small.’ We still let ya’ll *sses run all over the goddamn place.”
“I think that women are always going to be criticized for existing in their bodies,” she also said, adding: “And I don’t think I’m any different than any of the other great women who’ve come before me that had to literally be politicized just to be sexual…you know what I mean? [Just to] exist.”
Lizzo continued, “Things that were beautiful on them were called flaws, and they persisted against that, fought against that, and now I’m able to do what I do because of those great women. And they all look completely different, they don’t all look the same, and they all had to deal with the same kind of marginalization and misogyny.
