Kanye West has announced that he’ll be running for president in 2024. The 42-year-old rapper and business mogul makes headlines galore for his outlandish political statements – if Kanye has his way, though, he’ll be sitting in the White House in four years’ time. The husband to Kim Kardashian first announced his intent to give the 2024 presidential run a go in 2015, returning with a stronger statement in 2019.
“When I run for President in 2024,” the Ye rapper said last year before being interrupted by audience laughter.
“What y’all laughing at? We would create so many jobs! I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk. When you see headlines saying Kanye’s crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing, they got no opinion, they’re so scared!”
While the audience had laughed at West, the rapper himself appeared totally dead serious.
There’s been an update in the Kanye drama. The Yeezy founder now faces opposition from another rap face who’s stated he’ll be in the running. Akon has revealed his wish to sit in the Oval Office, but the Senegalese-American stands opposed to West when it comes to political views. Unlike Kanye, who has repeatedly endorsed President Donald Trump, Akon is staunchly anti the current POTUS.
“I’m running for presidency if I do it. My target is the bully,” Akon said.
While lower-profile overall, Akon’s activities in the world of politics and global affairs have been marked. The 46-year-old is a philanthropist, working with projects in Africa. He’s also the founder of his own AKOIN crypto-currency – AKOIN works to help empower citizens across the African continent.
Akon was asked why he feels he’s got what it takes.
“I think if you’re going to run for office, you are serving. And I think that’s a little bit different from a job. I’ve kind of experienced everything that a U.S citizen can experience – being an entrepreneur, understanding growth and building companies. I can also say the same thing from a business level and then from a political standpoint. I’ve been, literally, advising presidents from everywhere. I mean, like over 15, you know, countries in Africa – all throughout the world.”
Fresh from his religious and musical awakening, Kanye now appears more confident than ever. The rapper has recently toyed with the idea of legally changing his name to Christian Billioniare Genius West, donned a MAGA hat, and claimed that his Yeezy brand will “hit a billion.” The latter seemed questioned by experts in the early days, but 2019 saw the popular sneaker and clothing brand make headlines for just this reason.
Were he to make it, Kanye would likely have to consider giving up at least some aspects of his multi-faceted career. The “Sunday Service” host, Yeezy designer, father of four, and rapper/producer also recently wrote an opera.
As to the “genius” name-change, Kanye does seem to have something in common with Trump here. The 73-year-old referred to himself as a “very stable genius!” on Twitter in September 2019.
