Kaley Cuoco is bringing something new, and soon. The “Big Bang Theory” actress, best-known for her iconic Penny role on the NBC sitcom, is returning to television, but not as you know her. Kaley, 34, has been making major headlines since the end of August for jetting out of L.A. to complete her two-month shooting stint – “The Flight Attendant” is the new series, and it’ll be airing on HBO Max.
Kaley, who has been updating her 6.1 million Instagram followers with every step of the process, will play Cassandra Bowden, a woman who wakes up hungover in Dubai, only to find she’s got a dead body lying next to her. The star’s Yes, Norman Productions (named after her Pit Bull mix) is behind the whole thing, although “The Flight Attendant” is set to be a family affair. 31-year-old sister Briana Cuoco, who both appeared in a 2013 episode of “Big Bang” and co-stars in animated series “Harley Quinn” with Kaley, will be featuring.
Kaley has already opened up on her new character, calling it totally ideal after her years on “Big Bang.”
“When I read the book description, I got a chill down my arms. It felt like a good mix of drama and dark comedy. Plus, a complicated female character is a dream role,” Kaley told UsWeekly earlier this year, adding
“I love making people laugh, but it’s been an incredible experience working my dramatic muscles. This cast is so experienced and has surrounded me with so much support. They make me feel like I can do anything.”
“Dr Who” star Michelle Gomez features and has already been seen holding Kaley’s character at gunpoint in tense scenes on New York City streets. Prior to the pandemic, which saw six out of eight episodes completed, Kaley was out in Rome, Italy to shoot. Over on Kaley’s Instagram, photos have largely been showing the blonde masked up on-set, also bringing reassuring words amid the global pandemic. In September, Kaley peeped her mask, writing:
Friends that get covid tested every few days , wear masks, take necessary pre-cautions, listen to production rules , wash hands all day long and respect the process together, get to act together 🥰 😷”
Kaley, who became famous for earning $1 million an episode on “Big Bang,” starred on the hit sitcom from 2007 onwards. “The Flight Attendant,” touted as a thriller, is set to be one of fall’s hottest shows, with Kaley recently revealing when it might air. Speaking on her popular “A Cup of Cuoco” series and from an upstate NY lockdown, the star let fans know that a hopeful November release date is on the cards.
