Draya Michele was basically canceled at the end of July – she ain’t anymore. The 35-year-old reality star fronted media outlets at the end of July for dropping poorly-received comments about “Savage” rapper Megan Thee Stallion getting shot. While Draya quickly apologized, the tasteless joke seemed to cost her big-time as she was alleged to lose her SavagexFenty ambassador role.
It’s onwards and upwards for the “Basketball Wives LA” alum, though. Draya took to Instagram this week to announce major news. She’ll be starring in a 10-part docu-series and reality show airing on subscription streaming service Zeus. The series draws on Michele’s name. It’s called “Doses of Draya.”
Episodes will show the Mint Swim founder and Oh Polly collaborator in exclusive, behind-the-scenes footage as she runs her multi-faceted career, with Draya’s 8.1 million followers then getting a promo video – but not for long. Draya appears to have deleted the video. Nobody knows why.
In black-and-white, however, is a statement from Draya regarding her upcoming show that will also see her take on an executive producer role.
“I’ve been on a pretty incredible journey over the past decade, and I’m grateful to my fans who have been with me through the ups and downs. As a woman of color, I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Zeus, a Black-owned streaming service, to share my story, and to let people into my daily life in a way I never really have before.”
Draya, who has been backing Black Lives Matter and even tipped a waiter more this summer because he was black, continued: “I’ve come a long way, from humble beginnings, and have continued to reinvent myself and evolve my brands over and over. I hope my fans have appreciated my honesty along the way.”
Brand partnerhips may make headlines for the Revolve and Oh Polly designer, but Draya’s profiles over July and August were near-solely focused on her Stallion shooting drama. It all began when Draya spoke on the “Weed and Wine” podcast. Of 25-year-old Stallion who claims she was shot in both feet, Draya said:
“I predict that they had some sort of Bobby & Whitney love that drove them down this type of road,” also adding she was “here for it.”
“I like that. I want you to like me so much you shoot me in the foot too,” Draya concluded.
The storm was immense. Fellow SavagexFenty face Megan clapped back on Twitter calling Draya’s statement messed-up. Draya quickly backtracked, but the damage appeared done. Rihanna’s SavagexFenty brand, still making no statement other than being “aware” of the situation, quickly unfollowed Draya on Instagram. The lingerie line also wiped its social media of all promotional photos of Draya.
Clearly, this star knows how to bounce back.
