Dolly Parton Makes Her Feeling Known on Black Lives Matter

In an interview with Billboard magazine, Dolly Parton addressed several topics. One of the issues which include the on-going protests against police brutality and racism following the death of George Floyd.

“I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen,” she said. “And of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little White a**es are the only ones that matter? No!”

The famous country musician released her first debut album in 1967 with “Hello, I’m Dolly,” and she recorded more and various albums with different labels, including her record, Dolly record. 

She is also an actress, businesswoman, humanitarian, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and songwriter.

The 74 years old musician has had 25 of her songs reach No. 1 on Billboard’s country music charts.

She has top 10 country albums, and she has 110 career-charted singles over the past 40 years. 

Her awards:

  • She has garnered 10 Grammy Awards and 49 nominations, including the Lifetime Achievement Award and a 2020 win with for KING & COUNTRY for their collaboration on “God Only Knows.” 
  • 10 Country Music Association Awards, including Entertainer of the Year.
  • She is one of only seven female artists to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year Award.
  • 5 Academy of Country Music Awards, also including a nod for Entertainer of the Year
  • 4 People’s Choice Awards
  • 3 American Music Awards. 

As an actress, Dolly Parton has featured in movies such as Rhinestone (1984), Steel Magnolias (1989), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982), Straight Talk (1992) and Joyful Noise (2012).

Dolly Parton was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame, and she also recorded over 3,000 songs. 

During the pandemic, Dolly Parton has donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s COVID-19 research fund and recorded handwashing videos and bedtime stories for children. She recorded a new song, “When Life Is Good Again.”

Parton becomes gravely severe when she talks about her mission to make as many people as she can feel as good as possible. “As the scripture says, ‘To whom much is given, much is required.’ So I look at my life with that every day and think that God expects it of me,” she says. “I expect it of myself, and I think people expect it of me. If I can be an inspiration, then I want to be that. That makes me feel good.”
