Damiano David: Eurovision Winner Denies Taking Drugs During the Event

Damiano David, the singer who often led the Italian band and also won the Eurovision Song Contest, has refuted the claims that he took drugs. The lead singer was seen in the competition footage that surfaces online leaning over a table, and then it has turned to wide speculation.

Måneskin’s Damiano David has canceled out the claim that has been spreading that he had been taking cocaine.

“I don’t use drugs. Please, guys. Don’t say that, no cocaine,” he said at a press conference.

In a press release by Eurovision, they made it known that the award-winning performer would “take a voluntary drug test after arriving home.”

Måneskin has been one of the top contenders to win the winning prize at the contest, bagging the top prize with their song Zitti e buoni.

Viewers that watched the footage were curious about what the singer was engaged in when the footage captured him bending his face towards a table when the band was celebrating their victory that was broadcast live.

When Damiano David was questioned at a press conference after the ceremony, he said the reason while he was looking down is that guitarist Thomas Raggi had mistakenly broken a glass.

Eurovision publicized that the top artist will be put to the test to check if he had taken drugs.

“This was requested by them last night but could not be immediately organized by the EBU,” the statement said.

“The band, their management, and head of a delegation have informed us that no drugs were present in the Green Room and explained that glass was broken at their table and the singer was clearing it. The EBU can confirm broken glass was found after an on-site check.

“We are still looking at footage carefully and will update with further information in due course.”

Darmian David and his band responded to the rumor in an Instagram story. They said they are surprised at the news, and none of the band members takes drugs.

“We really are AGAINST drugs, and we never used cocaine. We are ready to get tasted [sic], cause we have nothing to hide.”

Måneskin has been one of the top favorites to win the award despite not being a regular Eurovision fare.

Damian David Band is the first group to claim a prize in the competition since the year 2006. Italy also earns its first victory through this band since 1990.
