Coming to America: Reviews Sequel Starring Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall starred in Coming to America in 1988, which the screenwriter described as a "black fairytale, where black people were grand"

Coming to America, the sequel was full of call-backs, cameos reprised and was mostly filled with the 1988 cast who are actively trying to recapture the old stunning acts like an old magician putting up his last old trick.

It doesn’t seem to work out well and coming to America lacks the attribute to buck the trend. The self-mockery that is positioned in the sequel hits meta-levels in one scene in which two characters were seen discussing the mercantile culture of the American movie business. They are typically against sequels, “if something is good why to ruin it” they agree. The knowing irony appears to make the producers’ position clear: “this is a light-hearted homage to a classic film with all your favorite characters hamming it up Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again style.”

Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall featured in Coming to America in 1988, and were described by screenwriter it as a “black fairytale, where black people were grand.”

Though the band was glued together but the holes in the top-notch that they reach years ago were noticeable and with the kind of plot that closely follows the original, with the additional twist of a generational shift.

There might be changes in time, but the tradition of patriarchal Zamunda remains ruggedly solid.

It’s of little significance that these three females have the potential to bring a lurking army to its feet with their combat skills and their intelligence which is highly technical but the only thing that stands between them and the throne is their gender and that poses a big problem.

There are various juncture s where the movie leaps beyond its “laboured and predictable script” to bring on some of the warmth and wit of the original, which was recognizable as a fun movie rather than a great film.

There are periods when the film rises above its labored and predictable script to recapture some of the warmth and wit of the original, which itself was a fun film rather than a great movie.

At its best, the most pleasant thing about Coming to America is the subtle feeling you get to watch it again or watch the original.
