Chanel West Coast is getting noticed right now. The 32-year-old rapper and “Ridiculousness” star is fresh from dropping her new “America’s Sweetheart” album, with the 19-track EP seeing Chanel extra proud since it’s an independent, no record label deal.
Chanel might be a face you’re used to seeing giggling on “Ridiculousness,” but the MTV face is now seriously making her mark in the hip-hop world. October 23 marked the release of “America’s Sweetheart,” with one track, in particular, making waves. “Heaven’s Calling” sees Chanel rap about not being born with a silver spoon in her mouth, with the video seeing the L.A.-based star shot in a daring faux leather trench coat and amid the stained-glass windows of a church.
Chanel has been sharing snaps from the “Heaven’s Calling” shoot to her Instagram, followed by 3.5 million. Going bold in sheer underwear and even cheekily seeming to need to censor the shots, Chanel posed with fierce attitude in shades, undies, and her coat, even hiking up a leg for a little provocation.
“Color or black & white?🤔 #HeavensCalling video out now! Link in bio ✝️,” Chanel wrote as she posted both color and black-and-white versions of the shots.
Chanel, whose new album follows tracks including the dominatrix-inspired “Sharon Stoned” and Western-feel “Old Fashioned” in 2019, actually made rap headlines prior to “America’s Sweetheart” release with a now-viral “Corona Rap,” but eyes are all on the EP right now. In fact, Chanel has opened up on why she picked the album name.
Mentioning white privilege amid the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement this summer, West Coast said:
“I called this album America’s Sweetheart because it’s an oxymoron and contradicts the perception that many have of me,” adding: “I have flaws. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve benefitted from white privilege and I’ve had second chances in life that, unfortunately, many people have not received.”
Chanel first appeared on “Fantasy Factory” in 2009 and has starred alongside Rob Dydrek and Sterling “Steelo” Brim on “Ridiculousness” since 2011. The series recently celebrated hitting 500 episodes.
