Based on the extreme heat, British Columbia Chief Coroner, Lisa Lapointe said it must've been "a significant contributing factor" to a recent spike in deaths. Over 719 deaths were three times the average number. "Many of the deaths experienced over the past week were among older individuals living alone in private residences with minimal ventilation," she said on Saturday.
