A Teen Killed and Two Others Injured in the New Orleans Gunfire

Two teens were left injured, and a teen was killed by gunfire on Monday, in New Orleans. 

New Orleans Police Chief Shaun Ferguson told the reporters at the scene, “We as a society are talking about social justice versus social injustice. We, as a community, need to take a look at ourselves.”

In a police statement, the 9-year-old teen killed, was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the head at the scene of the shooting in New Orleans’ Seventh Ward alongside with a 15 years old girl with a gunshot wound to the stomach and 13 years old boy wound to his leg by the gunfire.

According to CNN affiliate, who identified the boy killed as Davonte Bryant, and interviewed his father, David Bryant.

David Bryant said, “Walking out the door, picking him up to go lay him down. Killed my man, killed my baby. They shot him in the head. I can still see the blood gushing from his head.”

“Innocent bystanders,” Bryant continued, “I do not know what they were shooting for. They are killing babies. They just killed a baby. A good baby. A 9-year-old baby.” 

However, New Orleans Police Chief, Shaun Ferguson, has called for people who witness the shooting to come forward. He said, “I am begging you, I am pleading with you – the community- to come forward with any information that you may have.”

“We do not want any street justice. We do not want any more blood on our streets,” Ferguson said. “Let us handle it, get us that information and let us do our job.”

Moreso, gun violence has taken at least seven other children’s lives, ages 6 to 14 while doing everyday things across the United States in July.

In New York, a 1-year old boy, Davell Gardner was shot to death on a playground at a park in Brooklyn on Sunday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio spent time with the family, and he described the event as a shock to the family and a “deep well of pain you could see in their eyes.”

“No parent, no family should ever have to go through that,” de Blasio said.

In another shooting in New York, a 12-year old boy was wounded in the leg over the weekend.

“It is heartbreaking for so many reasons. It begins with the fact that there are so many guns out there and that is a New York tragedy and a national tragedy,” de Blasio said.

In San Francisco, 6-year-old Jace Young was hit by a stray bullet while attending a birthday party on July Fourth and watching fireworks when he was, CNN affiliate KRON reported.

In Chicago, Natalia Wallace, 7, was shot while playing with a group of children in a yard.

In Atlanta, Secoriea Turner, 8, was in a car with her mother when shots broke out.

Royta De’ Marco Giles, 8, was visiting a shopping mall in Hoover, Alabama when a gun battle erupted between a group of men.

Davon McNeal, 11, was visiting family in southeast Washington, DC. He was racing from his family car into his aunt’s house to grab a phone charger when gunshots began.

A teen, 14-year-old boy identified as Vernado Jones Jr. was shot and killed on July Fourth in Chicago in an incident in which eight people were shot and three others killed, CNN affiliate WGN reported.
